Mechanism Registrar Tambadou on official visit to BiH from 28 to 31 January

The Registrar of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism), Mr. Abubacarr M. Tambadou, will be on an official visit to Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), from 28 to 31 January 2024.

As part of the visit, Registrar Tambadou will hold meetings with a number of BiH government officials, including Minister of Justice of BiH, Mr. Davor Bunoza, to discuss the ongoing cooperation between the Mechanism and the BiH authorities, including Mechanism’s continued operations in BiH.

On Tuesday, 30 January 2024, Registrar Tambadou will conclude a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Justice of BiH and the Mechanism, which will enable the judgements of International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) and the Mechanism to be registered in the domestic criminal records of BiH. Following the signing ceremony, Registrar Tambadou and Minister of Justice of BiH, Mr. Bunoza will hold a joint press conference.

Registrar Tambadou will also take the opportunity to meet with the representatives of the international community, including the High Representative for BiH, Mr. Christian Schmidt and the United Nations Resident Coordinator for BiH, Ms. Ingrid Macdonald.

During his visit to Sarajevo, Mr. Tambadou will also meet with representatives of victims’ associations in BiH, to discuss their ongoing activities in relation to the Mechanism’s work and the legacy of the ICTY.
