Mechanism welcomes delegation of Rwandan Judges and senior Court officials to its premises in The Hague

Today, the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism) was very pleased to welcome a delegation of Judges and senior Court officials from the Republic of Rwanda (Rwanda) to its premises in The Hague.

The delegation was composed of the Vice President of the Court of Appeal of Rwanda, the Hon. Justice Agnes Nyirandabaruta; the President of the High Court Chamber for International Crimes of Rwanda, the Hon. Justice Antoine Muhima; the Secretary General of the Supreme Court of Rwanda, Ms. Beth Murora; the Inspector of Courts, Mr. Jean Claude Nsengiyumva; the Registrar of the Court of Appeal, Ms. Zita Uwase; and the Registrar of the High Court Chamber for International Crimes, Mr. Jean Claude Harinditwali.

As part of this high-level visit, the members of the delegation met with the President of the Mechanism, Judge Graciela Gatti Santana, and the Prosecutor of the Mechanism, Mr. Serge Brammertz, during which they were updated on the Mechanism’s recent activities and were able to discuss matters of mutual interest.

In addition, the delegation received comprehensive briefings from a number of senior Mechanism officials from the Chambers, Office of the Prosecutor, and Registry on a broad array of topics, including the Mechanism’s ongoing judicial work, court management practices, and witness protection functions. 

This was the first high-level visit by a senior judicial delegation from Rwanda to the Mechanism’s premises in The Hague.
